Get Word for free - simply go to OpenOffice.org and download their latest release. While there is the occasional difference between OpenOffice.org's Writer and Microsoft's Word, they're well worth the savings of hundreds of dollars for the average user. There are even free video tutorials for OpenOffice.org and many sites to help you switch comfortably.

GoToMyPC without the monthly fee - Using VNC(Virtual Network Computing), you can operate your internet-connected computer from any other on the planet. After login you see the screen and have full control of the keyboard and mouse just like you're there. This requires that you can always locate your computer by name and that your firewall allow remote access.

Copy DVDs - If you've got a DVD burner, you can make a backup copy of your store-bought DVDs. Just download DVD Shrink and install it. Then you've just to start the program, insert a disc, and click open followed by backup. Oh, and you'd better have some blank DVDs handy. |
